Bob Mehr – While Memphis’ Stax Music Academy has proven to be a remarkable training ground for R&B, soul and funk musicians, the program’s most recent notable product is a contemporary art rock band with a twist, Above Jupiter.
The young group — its members are 15 or 16, still in high school and have all passed through the Stax Music Academy — released its self-titled debut album earlier this summer.
